Q: How Do I Know When My Child Is Ready for the Next Level?

A: Great question! Every swimmer progresses at their own pace, and your instructor will keep you informed when your child is ready to move up. While our swim class packages are designed for consistency, they’re not tied to a set timeline for advancement, so don’t hesitate to ask your instructor how things are going or what to expect next.

We’re here to support every splash and step forward!

Q: What Should We Bring to Swim Class?

Here’s a quick checklist to make sure your swimmer is all ready to go when you arrive:

→ Swimsuit

→ Goggles (even if they’re not a fan yet – we recommend bringing them!)

→ Swim cap or hair tie for those with long hair

→ Towel

For little swimmers: Children under 2.5 years old – or anyone not fully potty trained – are required to wear two swim diapers: one reusable swim diaper underneath and a snug-fitting Happy Nappy over it. It might feel like overkill, but this double-diaper rule keeps things smooth.

Q: Do You Offer Make-Up Swim Lessons?

A: We don’t offer make-up swim lessons right now!

Q: What’s Your Reschedule and Cancellation Policy?

A: We get it – life happens sometimes.

If something comes up, you can reschedule your swim lesson through your profile up to 24 hours in advance of the lesson start time. Need to cancel entirely? Send us an email. As long as we receive notice 24 hours before the scheduled class, we’ll issue a refund, no problem.

We aim to make swim scheduling as flexible and stress-free as possible for families in Bend, Oregon.

Q: What’s the Best Place to Be During My Child’s Swim Lesson?

A: We totally get it – watching your little one swim is exciting! But we’ve found that most children stay more focused when parents or guardians are just out of sight. It helps reduce distractions and builds independence in the water. That said, if your child is feeling anxious or having a tough time calming down, the instructor may ask you to stay close by.

We do kindly ask that you remain on the Riverhouse Lodge premises during any swim lessons, just in case we need you quickly. Think of yourself as the calm support crew nearby, ready if needed but letting them shine on their own.

Q: How Can I Help My Child Feel Ready Before Starting Swim Lessons?

A: The best way to ease your child into swim lessons is to start small – and familiar! Bath time is a perfect opportunity. Show them how to blow bubbles, splash around, and get used to water on their face and ears. Pouring water gently over their head can go a long way in making the pool feel less intimidating later on in life. The more confident they are in water before stepping into a lesson, the smoother their transition will be – and the more fun they’ll have!

Q: How Long Does It Take for My Child to Be Water Safe?

A: Every swimmer learns at their own pace, and that’s totally normal! Water safety is a skill built over time through repetition, trust, and consistent practice. The more regularly your child attends swim lessons, the faster they’ll pick up the skills they need to feel confident and independent in the water. Stick with it – progress might be gradual, but every splash counts.

Q: Can I Leave to Run an Errand During My Child’s Lesson?

A: We know it’s tempting to dash out for a quick coffee run, but for safety reasons, we do require that a parent or guardian stays on-site during the lesson. Please remain on the Riverhouse Lodge premises while your child is in the pool. You never know when we might need a quick, expertly-tossed towel handoff or a special high-five from mom or dad!

Q: How Do I Know Which Swim Class Is Right for My Child?

A: We’re here to make that decision easier! Under the “Classes” section in the About tab, you’ll find clear descriptions of each swim class including what skills your child should have before moving to the next level. Still not sure? No problem! Just send us an email and we’ll help guide you to the best fit based on your swimmer’s age, experience, and comfort level.

We want every child in Bend, Oregon to start in the right place – confident, supported, and set up for success in the water.
